Beneficiaries

Eligibility Criteria

  • Citizens who during the 5 years preceding the date of application submission have been continuously and legally residing in The Republic of Cyprus for a period of at least 50 months.
  • Individuals belonging to families whose financial situation is such that it necessitates the interruption of their studies (supporting documentation must be included).
  • Individuals in financial hardship who due to extraordinary social circumstances or other exceptional events, which have occurred after enrolling or securing a place in an institution of higher education, have been directly affected and present serious difficulties in continuing their education.
  • Individuals who have secured enrollment/place at a recognized institution of higher education for undergraduate studies

Applications

Applications can be found on (https://socialsupport.gov.cy/applications) and must be completed ONLINE through that specific website.

The ISSB will accept applications for a specific period of time each academic year on dates to be announced. The time given from the beginning of accepting applications to the final deadline is always enough for the interested party to gather and attach all the necessary documents/certificates requested. Incomplete applications that are not accompanied by all the necessary documents/certificates will be rejected.

  • The applicant must be the student himself
  • Large families (4+ children) will be able to apply and be approved for up to two (2) members of their family while the rest, only for one (1) member.

Applications related to the following will be rejected:

  • Inactive students
  • Studying to learn a language
  • Distance learning or studying with an Open university
  • Studying for a second degree or diploma
  • Attendance at unrecognized higher education institutions
  • Studying in unrecognized fields of study
  • Change of university that does not involve transfer in the same year
  • Repeating the same year of study or changing study field
  • Obtaining a master's degree.
  • Students who have failed more than 1/3 of the courses from the previous academic year.

Financial aid is for university tuition or student rent. Payments for approved students are made directly to the University Institutions (for tuition) or directly to the property owners (for rent).

It is noted that, depending on the budget available in the ISSB's fund, the number of students who will receive financial aid, as well as the amount, will be decided.

The ISSB’s Management Committee may institute a scoring system for applications. The scoring system will rank the beneficiaries in such a way that priority financial assistance is granted to those beneficiaries who have accumulated the most points as being in a disadvantageous position, and possibly exclude people who have accumulated the fewest points.
